2020 FAD

Toolkit, Topics, Elections, ...

It’s that time of year again! The Field Associative Debates (FAD) season is quickly approaching and it’s time to start planning.

As you know, the FADs are a great opportunity for everyone in the field to come together and discuss both movement wide issues, and local themes.
Usually, the mission selects their own relevant FAD topics that arises from challenges to your particular mission.

It is important that the FADs continue to be a platform where the members of your team can exchange views and debate questions that concerns them about the medical and humanitarian challenges they face daily, and to have an opportunity to think and discuss about the way MSF is working both in your context and around the movement.
As always, we are ready if you need help or support with your FAD topics.

At the upper side of this page (see the bullets) you will find the 2020 FAD Toolkit,  inspiration for your debates topics and more to help you organise your FAD.
This will be updated in the course of the following month.

Here are the steps needed to get the process started:

  • If there is more than one OC present - decide which section is responsible for organizing the FAD and communicate the decision to us even if the date is not yet set. The FAD is an international event, and if there are several sections in your country consult with them on coordinating the practical arrangement and agenda. Usually, each section takes turns in organizing the FADs.
  • Set a date and the location for your FAD, and please email usas soon as your dates have been decided, no later than December 15. The sooner you let us know your dates, the greater the chance that a board member can attend and help facilitating the discussions. If your mission is not participating in the 2020 FADs, please let me know that to.
  • Decide who will be the focal point persons in the mission, dealing with the FAD, and let me know who that person is so that I am sure to direct all information to the right person.
  • Start drafting your agenda and let us know what subjects you are interested in.
  • We will post all relevant FAD information on InsideOCB, including the 2020 FAD toolkit (which is in the process of being finalized).

  • Finally, during the FAD the mission will elect a representative who will travel to Brussels in connection with the 2020 OCB Gathering for a weeklong workshop.  Though still early in the process, check the criteria for who can be elected. We are also working  on a check list with tips for how to do the election in a fair and transparent manner.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for the huge amounts of energy and work that is put into organizing these events!
